Amritsar: Himalaya Parivar, an organisation associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), organised its first Raksha Sutra programme in Amritsar on Monday, with around 500 women participating.Himalaya Parivar Punjab president Mohit Arora said participants tied rakhis to mark the festival and convey a message of social unity, brotherhood and Indian cultural values.The programme comes as BJP steps up organisational preparations for the Punjab assembly elections. According to sources, RSS-linked social and cultural outreach initiatives are also being used to strengthen grassroots connections ahead of the polls.Arora said Raksha Sutra symbolised love, brotherhood, respect and social harmony. He said the organisation would hold similar social and cultural programmes across Punjab in the coming days.RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini member and Himalaya Parivar patron Indresh Kumar attended the programme as chief guest. Paramjit Singh Gill, national working president, and Kulveer Singh, regional president, were also present.
