Ranchi: Students’ unions under the banner of All India Forum for Equity on Friday staged a demonstration on the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University campus in Ranchi to mark the Akhil Bhartiya Vanchit Adhikar Diwas.The programme was part of their ongoing campaign to press the govt to make a law to curb caste based discrimination in educational institutions.Among the participants were members of All India Student’s Association, Adivasi Chhatra Sangh, Chhatra RJD, All India Student’s Federation and National Student’s Union of India.The participants marched from the DSPMU main gate and reached the university where they staged a dharna.Addressing the gathering, AISA state secretary Triloki nath said, “A strict law should be framed to prevent on caste bias in the campus.”Executive chairman of Adivasi Chhatra Sangh Dayaram claimed that caste based discrimination rose by 118 per cent between 2019 and 2024. He claimed that even in the present era students were forced to leave education or die by suicide due to caste prejudice. AISA town president Vijay Kumar demanded a strict law against people involved in caste based discrimination.
