Ahmedabad: A youth allegedly threatened students with a sharp weapon and vandalized a parked SUV after a minor altercation on Monday afternoon. Navrangpura police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are looking for the absconding accused, who has been identified as Aditya Rathod, 19. According to officers, he is the grandson of Kishor Rathod, a bootlegger from the city’s Asarwa area. According to police, the incident occurred when several students were standing outside the college campus. Rathod was passing through the narrow lane in an SUV when an argument broke out between him and some students for “looking at his vehicle”. Rathod allegedly, in an inebriated condition, got out of his SUV, pulled out a sharp weapon and damaged a student’s car parked outside the college. Other students present alleged they too were threatened with a weapon. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact sequence of events.Navrangpura police Inspector M D Champawat said that a case of attempt to murder and other relevant offences has been registered against Rathod. “The accused is currently absconding,” Champawat said. Rathod was involved in a fatal accident near the Sardar Patel Memorial in Shahibaug several months ago, in which a scooter rider died after being hit by a speeding SUV.
