T’puram: A state-of-the-art robotics and AI lab, developed and funded by students, is now fully operational. The high-tech facility has been established at Mar Thoma Central School, Cherunniyoor, Varkala. A group of high school students from UAE is the driving force behind this visionary initiative.
Robotics, AI, and Innovation Lab (Rail), built entirely by students, aims to bring advanced tech facilities to schools in underprivileged regions across India. The facility marks the seventh RAIL lab established in the country under this project.Rail project is an initiative of Unique World Robotics, a Kochi-based robotics and AI training institute. Supported by Unique World Robotics, a group of students from various UAE schools lead the creation and maintenance of these labs. From July 20 to 26, the UAE student cohort conducted a training programme titled ‘Future Ready Yatra’ at the school. Training is being provided to students from Class I to XII. The fully revamped lab features advanced hardware kits and upgraded infrastructure to support this programme.Banson Thomas, Founder and CEO of Unique World Robotics, said that the students themselves took the initiative to choose schools in rural and underserved areas to design labs and teach tech skills. He highlighted that this model, where students directly teach technical education to fellow students, is unprecedented in India. The UAE student team emphasized that access to robotics and AI education should not depend on a school’s location, financial status, or popularity. They added that this project proves students themselves can bridge the tech gap in resource-limited areas.
