Patiala: Patiala Police have arrested a 20-year-old student accused of attempting to murder a fellow student at Punjabi University, and recovered a .32 bore pistol along with live cartridges believed to have been used in the crime. Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma said that the case was traced by a team led by DSP Gurbans Singh Bains. The incident occurred on April 10, when the complainant, Jobanveer Singh alias Joban, a resident of Ghumada and a student of Khalsa College, went to Punjabi University to meet friends. Police said that while they were having tea near Gol Market on the campus, an altercation broke out after Harshpreet Singh, along with his associates, arrived at the spot. According to police, during the dispute, Harshpreet Singh allegedly fired at Jobanveer Singh with intent to kill and fled the scene. A case was registered at Urban Estate Police Station, Patiala, under Sections 109, 115(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25 of the Arms Act. Acting on specific intelligence, the CIA Patiala team arrested the accused on Thursday.The accused, Harshpreet, is a resident of Pandta Kheri in Patiala district and is a student. SSP Sharma stated that the accused is currently being interrogated. “He will be produced before a court to obtain police remand for further investigation, including identifying possible accomplices,” he added.
