Chandigarh: With Panjab University student council elections approaching, members of Student Front and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) came together at the Student Centre, indicating the possibility of an electoral understanding between the two groups.Pharmacy student and presidential aspirant Gurman Sidhu was present at the gathering along with NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar and other student leaders. The development is significant as the two groups have maintained separate electoral equations in recent years but could benefit from combining their support bases ahead of the polls.Student Front is associated with former PU student leader and Congress politician Manoj Lubana. Last year, the group fielded its own candidate after its preferred choice was not allotted an NSUI ticket.The latest show of unity points to a shift in those equations as student organisations intensify campaigning for the upcoming elections.NSUI leader Aakanksha Thakur was also present at the event, fuelling speculation about her possible candidature for another council post. No formal announcement, however, was made.
