Lucknow: Lucknow Traffic Police has launched a citizen-participation programme to identify chronic traffic problems and collect practical solutions from daily commuters.The initiative, titled ‘Sahbhagita’ (participation), invites residents to report recurring congestion points, unsafe U-turns, pedestrian hazards, school-zone traffic issues and parking bottlenecks through a QR code-linked Google Form.Officials said the form is designed to capture actionable field inputs rather than general complaints. Participants are asked to submit photographs, the exact location and GPS coordinates, along with details on when the problem occurs and what changes they believe could improve traffic flow or road safety. Citizens may also upload annotated photographs, simple sketches or maps to explain the issue more clearly.DCP (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi said the programme aims to convert everyday road users into the department’s on-ground observers. She said a commuter’s repeated exposure to a risky junction, a frequently blocked crossing during peak hours, or a footpath routinely encroached upon by vehicles can help trigger targeted interventions. Tyagi added that contributors do not need technical expertise, and that clear observations paired with workable suggestions can be useful for enforcement and planning.While users may indicate the govt department they think is responsible for a particular issue, officials said it is optional. Each location or traffic issue must be submitted via a separate form. Citizens can also choose to share their name, mobile number and WhatsApp contact for follow-up, if required.The traffic police said all submissions will be subjected to ground verification and technical assessment, including review of road safety implications, site conditions, feasibility and compliance with standards. Where coordination is needed, the department will work with relevant agencies for examination, approvals and execution. Tyagi said the final decision on interventions and timelines will depend on jurisdiction, priorities and available resources.Police officials said they had already received detailed suggestions in recent months and implemented some after evaluation, resulting in visible improvements at identified locations. The initiative is open to individuals as well as RWAs, traders’ bodies, educational institutions, transport organisations and road-safety groups.
