Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made a strong start in the 2026-27 financial year, receiving about Rs30 crore in stamp duty revenue by mid-April.The amount was compiled based on property registrations done within the PMC area. The revenue was collected by the Registration Office, Patna Sadar (Chhajubagh) and the Sub-Registration Office, Patna City (Gulzarbagh).As per figures compiled based on property registrations done within the PMC area during the financial year 2025-26, a revenue increase of more than Rs5 crore was received compared to the previous year. The PMC received Rs68 crore in 2025-26 fiscal, whereas in 2024-25 collection totalled Rs63 crore.Section 136 of the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007, mandates a 2% transfer duty or stamp duty on the sale, gift, or mortgage of immovable property within the PMC limits. Total transaction costs currently stand at 10.4% for male buyers, 9.6% for female buyers, and 10% for other cases.The PMC channels these funds towards the creation, upgrade and maintenance of urban infrastructure, including roads, drainage networks, water supply systems, and solid waste management.The PMC has established a help desk at the Chhajubagh registration office to provide mutation and assessment services. Under municipal law, owners will have to complete property assessments within 30 days of registration or construction.Additionally, a 5% rebate is available for residents who pay their full annual property tax by June 30, 2026. To facilitate these payments, municipal counters now operate 10 hours daily, from 9am to 7pm.
