Nagpur: Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Monday warned of strict action against those found guilty of cheating citizens in the name of land development. Police were directed to act suo motu in such cases. Also, major upgrades have been planned for the city’s CCTV network.Bawankule, during a high-level review meeting at the Police Commissioner’s office, said children of many families in central Nagpur are working abroad or in other cities. “If anyone is found coercing or misleading these senior citizens over their residential properties under the guise of plot development, the victims should immediately contact the nearest police station,” he said.Instructing the police department to take suo motu action in all such matters, he said that no soft approach would be tolerated against the accused.He noted that many complaints are being received on social media regarding traffic management and said the police should remain vigilant to make traffic smoother at places where construction is underway.CP Vishwas Nangre Patil said the force is using modern technology, including the AI-based SIMBA system for crime data updates and the Garud Drishti software for round-the-clock social media monitoring, to maintain a check on criminals.Joint command centre approved for rural, city CCTV networksBawankule also said adequate funds are being released from the district annual plan to ensure an adequate security set-up in Nagpur. He approved the creation of a joint control centre integrating rural and city CCTV camera networks. Existing cameras will be upgraded and technical bottlenecks removed. He directed that the CCTV cameras in Nagpur be upgraded and that disruptions or gaps at various locations be addressed.Discussion was held on completing the rural CCTV project before the legislative session and on the benefit of assigning the city project, from a technical standpoint, to a single agency.
