Patna: In an effort to spread awareness about environment conservation and cleanliness ahead of World Environment Day, the railways organised a ‘nukkad natak’ (street play) at Patna Junction under Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) on Tuesday.Railway artists conveyed message on the importance of maintaining hygiene, protecting the environment and preserving ecological balance. Through songs, dialogues and dramatic performances, the railway artists highlighted the harmful effects of pollution and stressed the need for collective efforts to safeguard nature, said Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Abhinav Siddarth.According to Siddarth, the street play drew the attention of passengers and visitors at the station, many of whom stopped to watch the performance. The artists urged people to adopt eco-friendly practices, avoid littering, reduce the use of plastic and contribute towards keeping railway premises and public places clean, he said, adding the awareness campaign was organised as part of the preparations for World Environment Day, observed on June 5.The objective of staging street play, displaying banners and posters as well as distributing handbills was to sensitise passengers and the general public about environmental issues and encourage them to play an active role in protecting natural resources, Siddarth said.
