Bhubaneswar: The state has recorded a decline in its CBSE Class XII pass percentage this year, mirroring a broader dip in the performance of the Bhubaneswar region, which comprises Odisha and West Bengal. Girls, however, continued to outperform boys in the state, scoring 79.84 against latter’s 74.38 pass percentage.According to results released by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday, the state registered an overall pass percentage of 76.81 in Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII), 2026, down from 78.74% in 2025.The Bhubaneswar region recorded an overall pass percentage of 81.71, a decline of 1.93% compared to last year. Nationally, the overall pass percentage stood at 85.2.Among the 22 CBSE regions across the country, Bhubaneswar ranked 16th, while Trivandrum topped the list with a pass percentage of 95.62.CM Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated the students who successfully passed the examinations. “I encourage all students, irrespective of their results, to move forward with confidence, and face every challenge in life with determination. Our talented young generation will be the driving force behind a Samruddha Odisha. I wish all students a successful and progressive future,” he posted on social media platform X.In Odisha, a total of 40,675 students registered for the examination, of whom 40,300 appeared and 30,955 passed.As many as 537 schools from Odisha appeared for the examinations, which were conducted across 263 centres between Feb 17 and April 10.Despite the overall decline, centrally run schools in Odisha posted strong performances. Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) emerged as the top-performing institutions with an overall pass percentage of 97.34. Girls in KVs recorded a pass percentage of 98.01, while boys secured 96.68%.Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) closely followed with an overall pass percentage of 96.82, while Eklavya Model Residential Schools posted 81.75%. The JNV girls, with a pass percentage of 97.39, were marginally ahead of the boys at 96.46%. Among CBSE-affiliated govt schools in Odisha, the overall pass percentage stood at 74.96. Private schools recorded a pass percentage of 77.21.Independent schools accounted for the highest number of candidates in the state. Of the 27,686 students registered from them, 21,224 cleared the examination.The CBSE stated that no merit list would be declared in order to avoid unhealthy competition among students. However, merit certificates will be issued through DigiLocker accounts to the top 0.1% students securing the highest marks in individual subjects.
