Thiruvananthapuram: State GST joint commissioner Prajani Rajan was suspended late Wednesday following a vigilance case alleging that she accumulated assets worth Rs 2.89 crore disproportionate to her known sources of income between Jan 1, 2014, and Dec 1, 2024. Following a vigilance raid, chief minister V D Satheesan directed her immediate suspension. Rajan is posted as joint commissioner (taxpayer service) at the state GST office in Thevara, Ernakulam.Secretary (taxes) N Prasanth issued the suspension order based on the vigilance director’s report dated Sept 29. Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) conducted a preliminary enquiry before registering the case against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act. It seized Rs 14.10 lakh in unaccounted cash and $788 from her Pachalam residence during the investigation, according to vigilance sources.The agency also recovered documents relating to property, title deeds and financial transactions, which will be produced before Muvattupuzha vigilance court. Vigilance sources said the probe also found a fixed deposit of around Rs 2.5 crore in her name. VACB had recommended her suspension, citing that her continuation in service could hamper the investigation.
