Kolkata: The state education department has formed a syllabus-cum-curriculum committee to review the curriculum at primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels at schools and align them with the National Education Policy 2020 standards and introduce advanced teaching practices.The matter was raised in a recent review meeting held at Bikash Bhavan, where, following a resolution, a committee was formed to examine all aspects of the curriculum, syllabus, and textbook.A circular issued by the school education department on Friday stated that the committee may use the office of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, with financial support provided by the project management fund of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.The circular mentions that the committee will review the course curriculum, syllabus, and textbooks from classes 1 to 12 and recommend changes to the govt.Furthermore, the committee will examine the evaluation patterns followed by different boards and councils, making requirements-based, scientific recommendations to avoid placing undue pressure and stress on students.The review committee will also find ways to eliminate dependence on tuitions and modify classroom instruction.The examination patterns at the secondary and higher secondary levels will also be reviewed. The committee will provide suggestions regarding teachers’ training programs and the overall improvement of educational quality. The committee will submit its preliminary report within two months of its first meeting, with the final report to be presented within three months.A circular stated the committee would review the curriculum, syllabus, and textbooks from classes 1 to 12 and make recommendations to the govt.
