NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested in Chandigarh after allegedly throwing a live puppy into a burning tandoor outside a dhaba, leading to the canine’s death. Police said the incident took place in the Bapu Dham area on May 16.Speaking on the case, Chandigarh DSP P. Abhinandan said an FIR had been registered under Section 11(1)(l) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He said police launched an investigation using local intelligence inputs and CCTV footage from the area.During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he became annoyed after a mother dog barked at him while he was returning home at night. Police said this led him to commit the act.The accused, identified as Niraj alias Bhola, was later arrested. Police said he is a resident of Phase 2, Bapu Dham, and has a previous criminal record.“Upon questioning, he told us that when he was returning home that night, the mother dog started barking at him. So, he got annoyed and did this,” he told ANI.
