Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday inaugurated the railway overbridge at 2B-level crossing on Korukkupet–Manali Road, built at a cost of 96 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for a new overbridge at the 2A railway crossing on Ennore High Road in Korukkupet, to be constructed at an estimated 75 crore.Stalin travelled on the 2B railway overbridge, which is 840m long, including a 72m span. It has a width of 8.4m and 5m-wide service roads on either side. Around 42,000 vehicles used to be halted daily at the 2A and 2B railway level crossings due to frequent train movement, causing long delays for motorists and heavy vehicles. The project addresses a demand that was pending for nearly 40 years and is expected to benefit around 1 lakh residents of Kodungaiyur, Korukkupet, Tondiarpet, Ezhil Nagar, Kannadasan Nagar and Nehru Nagar.The proposed 2A railway overbridge on Ennore High Road will be 448m-long, including a 39.4m railway portion. It will have a width of 11m, along with 5m-wide service roads with footpaths. The bridge will begin about 30m after the Power House junction and end at the IOCL junction. Once completed, it is expected to benefit around 1 lakh people in the surrounding areas.The chief minister also laid a foundation stone for a 19,128 sqft park to be developed near the new Manali Road bridge at a cost of 1.1 crore. The park will feature greenery, a walking track, seating arrangements and lighting facilities.
