Prayagraj: Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the detailed provisional vacancy position for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026, with 10,731 posts now available for recruitment across various central govt ministries and departments. Earlier 12,256 vacancies were mentioned in the notification issued by the commission on May 21.As many as 30.94 lakh candidates from across the country have applied for the SSC CGL 2026 examination. Of the 10,731 provisional vacancies, 4,412 are for the unreserved category, 2,772 for OBC, 1,028 for EWS, 1,715 for SC and 804 for ST candidates.Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) accounts for the largest share of the vacancies. It has 2,366 posts of inspector (central excise) and 841 posts of tax assistant.Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), under the finance ministry, has 1,400 vacancies for tax assistant and 595 for income tax inspector. Controller General of Defence Accounts under the defence ministry has 875 posts of auditor.Central Secretariat Service has 668 vacancies for assistant section officer (ASO), while CBDT has 426 posts of office superintendent. Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has 396 accountant posts.The vacancy list also includes 504 posts of assistant accounts officer (state cadre), 504 posts of assistant audit officer (state cadre) and 513 posts of assistant audit officer (central cadre) under CAG.The vacancies are provisional and may undergo further changes, as SSC can revise the number of posts based on additional vacancies reported by the participating ministries and departments.
