Madhuri Dixit chose not to pick between her fellow actresses Sridevi and Juhi Chawla when Sonali Bendre put the question to her at a show’s grand premiere. The actress praised both stars for their comic timing and talent, and Sonali’s reply left her blushing.
Madhuri Dixit declines to pick one
Sonali Bendre asked Madhuri Dixit to name her favourite between Sridevi and Juhi Chawla. Madhuri Dixit instead spoke about what she admired in each of them.“Sridevi’s comic timing was amazing. Juhi Chawla’s comic timing was also great, and she had such a beautiful laugh. Both were very talented, so I liked both of them,” the ‘Kalank’ actress said.
Praise for Sridevi’s range
Madhuri Dixit also appreciated how Sridevi worked in several film industries. “Sridevi acted in films in four different languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. That was amazing,” she added.
Sonali Bendre’s own pick
Sonali Bendre then turned the question around and made her own choice clear. “When Juhi Chawla and Sridevi are mentioned, we all know whose name is taken alongside theirs. So, my pick is always Madhuri ji!” she said.
Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla’s journeys
Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla were among Hindi cinema’s top heroines in the late 1980s and the 1990s. Both had big breaks in 1988, when Juhi gained recognition with ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and Madhuri rose to fame with ‘Tezaab’, which had the hit song ‘Ek Do Teen’.Madhuri Dixit later led films like ‘Dil’, ‘Beta’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’. Juhi’s popular titles included ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Yes Boss’. Although the two were often compared at their peak, they shared the screen only in ‘Gulaab Gang’ in 2014.
Sridevi’s earlier reign
Sridevi was already a big star before Madhuri and Juhi arrived. She ruled much of the 1980s with films such as ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Sadma’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Mr India’, ‘Chandni’ and ‘ChaalBaaz’. Madhuri and Sridevi never worked together in a film.
