Koderma: Two men from Bihar were arrested as police dismantled a spurious liquor manufacturing unit operating out of a closed poultry farm under Chandwara police station limits on Wednesday night. The raid, carried out by a team led by Shashi Bhushan Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Chandwara police station, was based on a tip-off. “The raid uncovered an organised syndicate involved in the large-scale production, bottling, and smuggling of spurious alcohol by copying prominent IMFL brands,” SP Anudeep Singh said on Thursday. The arrested men were identified as Kanhaiya Kumar and Gopal Singh. Kanhaiya is a resident of Patna while Gopal is a native of Gaya. Piyush Kumar Pandey, who is the owner of the unit, fled with his brother Ayush.A total of 191.2 litres of spurious liquor and 120 litres of spirit were seized along with 455 empty liquor bottles, 4,500 counterfeit caps, thousands of fake labels, barcode stickers, and fake logos of the state excise department were also seized, the police said. A white car, used to transport the consignment, was also impounded along with mobiles.Preliminary investigations led the police to suspect that the factory had been functioning for several months. Several locals had also been hired to facilitate manufacturing and logistics. “Police are currently investigating the criminal histories of all named suspects,” said SP.
