Vadodara: Professor Hitendra M Patel of Sardar Patel University (SPU) was recently elected honorary chair of the London-West India Local Section of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), a leading global organization dedicated to advancing chemical sciences.The newly constituted West India local section will cater to RSC members across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Goa. It aims to serve as a dynamic platform for collaboration and engagement while also working closely with regional chemical societies to strengthen the broader scientific community.As honorary chair, Patel will spearhead initiatives aligned with RSC’s mission of supporting chemical scientists at all stages of their careers. The section plans to organize a range of activities, including lectures and symposia, popular science outreach programmes and student-focused initiatives for undergraduate and postgraduate learners to foster innovation, participation and career development.The section’s committee members will play a key role in designing programmes to advance the discipline of chemistry in the region, contributing to RSC’s global vision of promoting innovation, sustainability and community engagement.
