Kanpur: Sir Padampat Singhania Education Centre (SPSEC) led the boys’ chess championship with six points after three rounds in KSS Zone A (Classes VI to VIII) at Vinyaas Public School on Thursday.Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya School was placed second with five points, while Yugam International, Escorts World School, Woodbine Gardenia School, Gardenia Public School and Durgaprasad Vidyaniketan were jointly third with four points each.According to the organisers, three of the five rounds were played on Thursday, while the remaining two rounds will be played on Friday.As many as 19 CBSE schools are participating in the event.Varun Katiyar, manager of the host school, and principal Shaila Wali inaugurated the championship.Powerlifting, fitness championship to begin on July 25Kanpur: The Kanpur Powerlifting Association will organise the Kanpur Divisional Open Bench Press and Fitness Championship at Seth Motilal Kheria Sanatan Dharam Inter College, Vishnupuri, on July 25 and 26, 2026.Saurabh Gaur, secretary of the association, said male and female athletes in the youth, sub-junior, junior, senior and master categories would participate in the competition.For the first time, a fitness championship has also been included this year, featuring squat and plank competitions.Athletes from various age and weight categories will showcase their fitness, strength and endurance in these events.He said registration and weigh-in for participating athletes would be held at the competition venue on July 24, 2026, between 4 pm and 7 pm.At the time of registration, participants must bring a birth certificate, a school/college identity card or high school mark sheet, and a passport-size photograph.
