Kanpur: Kanpur police cracked the theft of jewellery and cash worth around Rs60 lakh from a shop in Kakadev police station area on July 11 and arrested four accused in this connection.The police seized stolen gold and silver jewellery, Rs2 lakh cash and a bullet used in the crime from the possession of the accused. Jewellery that had already been sold was also recovered. The total estimated value of the recovered valuables is around Rs60 lakh.During the investigation, police examined footage from over 300 CCTV cameras, along with mobile surveillance and technical evidence, to trace the accused across different states. They were eventually arrested from Auraiya and Kanpur Dehat.During interrogation, main accused Vikas alias Addu and his wife confessed to committing the theft and admitted that part of the stolen jewellery had been sold to two jewellers. They told police that the money received from the sale was spent on personal expenses.DCP Central Atul Kumar Srivastava said the main accused is a history-sheeter with 26 criminal cases, including theft, Arms Act and Gangster Act cases, registered against him. “Legal action is being taken against all the accused, and they will be produced before court,” the DCP said.
