JIND: A 22-year-old youth from Chandpur village in Jind district, who had reportedly gone to Europe for higher studies, died after drowning in Moldova. He had gone to the seaside with his friends over the weekend when the boat they were travelling in suddenly began to sink.The deceased, Nihal Singh (22), had gone to Moldova on a study visa around nine months ago. Alongside his studies, he was working part-time as a delivery boy at a hotel.According to Nihal’s cousin Praveen Kumar, the family had spent around Rs 15 lakh to send him abroad. His mother did not have enough money, so the amount was borrowed from relatives and acquaintances.The family has now spent another Rs 10 lakh to bring Nihal’s body back to India. Some of the money was arranged by the family, while the rest was collected with the support of the local community.Nihal’s father, Krishan Kumar, died of a heart attack seven years ago. After his death, his mother, Sunita Devi, raised both her children.
