Gurgaon: A speeding truck rammed into an electricity pole and a house wall in Raja Ki Dhani village near an Indus Tower in Bilaspur, disrupting power supply for nearly 12 hours and causing damage worth over Rs 42,000 to govt property. While the incident happened in the early hours of May 2, police on Wednesday registered a case.The residents had to face the brunt of the damage caused by the truck driver in the absence of electricity amid scorching heat.According to the FIR, the accident took place around 1.45 am near Chandla Dungarwas village when the driver of vehicle number drove negligently and crashed into a pole belonging to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). The impact also damaged the boundary wall of a nearby private house.In his complaint to police, Vikram Singh, junior engineer (JE) with DHBVN Manesar, stated that the damaged electricity infrastructure led to a prolonged disruption of power supply in the area for around 12 hours. DHBVN assessed the loss to govt property at Rs 42,124. “Following information received through the police control room, police personnel reached the spot and initiated an inquiry. During the investigation, lineman Manoj Kumar informed police that the department’s JE would submit a formal complaint along with the damage estimate,” an investigator said.Based on the complaint and spot inspection, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act and Sections 125 (rash or negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS. Police said the accused driver is yet to be arrested.Talking to TOI, JE Vikram said that a new pole was installed by 11 am and eventually power was restored in the area. “7-8% of the area in the village was affected due to power disruption caused by the accident for around 10 hours, while there was power in the rest of the village. I submitted a detailed report of the incident to the police and also submitted an estimated report of the damages on Wednesday, following which police registered the case,” Vikram said.A police officer privy to the matter said that a notice has been sent to the owner of the truck, and he has been asked to make the driver join the police investigation and for further police action.
