Jaipur: A 19-year-old college student died Wednesday, after a speeding SUV rammed into his scooter on Vande Mataram Road under the Patrakar Colony police station limits.Police said the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. On Thursday, investigators recovered CCTV footage of the crash, showing the impact that flung the victim off his scooter while the SUV veered off the road and spun around.The deceased was identified as Vikas alias Raja Meena (19). He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.According to police, the SUV was travelling at high speed amid heavy rain when it hit the scooter. During the crash, one of the SUV’s tyres burst, forcing the driver to stop a short distance away before fleeing.Police have seized the damaged SUV and launched a search for its owner and the driver based on the vehicle’s registration details. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the area and recording statements of eyewitnesses.Meanwhile, locals said the stretch from Bharat Mata Circle to Vande Mataram Road has witnessed several similar accidents due to speeding vehicles. In January, a speeding vehicle rammed into roadside eateries near Kharbas Circle on Vande Mataram Road, killing one person and injuring 15 others.
