Bengaluru: There were no major accidents in South Western Railway (SWR) zone during the 2025-26 fiscal. However, there were six derailments. As per official data, it is the first time in the last three years that the zone reported a clean sheet in terms of consequential accidents. These are categorised as serious accidents with major repercussions in terms of loss of life, injury, loss to property or interruption in rail traffic. The last such accident in the zone was reported in Hubballi division in FY 2024-25.In the last six fiscal years, SWR saw eight consequential accidents — four in Hubballi division, three in Bengaluru and one in Mysuru divisions. All were serious derailments, involving five passenger trains and goods wagons. The six derailments reported during the financial year were classified as non-consequential. Among these, five happened when the trains were either stationed or moving through railway stations. The latest incident happened on Feb 17 when an empty goods wagon derailed between Bidadi and Ramanagara stations, disrupting other trains along Bengaluru-Mysuru route. There was also a case of signal passing at danger (SPAD). While it is considered non-consequential, the incident occurs when a train moves past a red signal without proper authorisation. SPADs could even lead to serious accidents, including collisions between trains. With Kavach anti-collision system yet to be rolled out within SWR zone, SPAD remains a concern, officials said.
