Kolkata: The ED, which arrested Biswajit Poddar, alias Sona Pappu, on Monday for usurping land, said he ran a racket of buying high-value property at a very low price. Pappu was on Tuesday sent to 10-day ED custody.ED officers told the special PMLA court that Pappu terrorised owners into selling their properties at a low price. One of the properties, worth Rs 5 crore, was sold for Rs 1 crore, said an officer. “Every FIR has his name. Illegal arms were recovered from him. He had bought a piece of firing arms from Joy S Kamdar’s company,” said Dhiraj Tripathi, ED’s lawyer. Kamdar, an aide of Pappu, was arrested in the same case last month. ED had earlier said Kamdar, managing director of Sun Enterprise, sent illicit funds through a web of shell firms, including Supreme Credit Corporation Ltd. They had traced a transfer of Rs 1.5 crore to a company linked to Pappu and reportedly discovered transactions of Rs 16-crore in two years. “Many under-valued properties were bought by Sona Pappu or with his help. There was a nexus of officials and musclemen. A single person could not have done it,” Trivedi said.
