LUCKNOW: Mohanlalganj Police on Sunday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly trying to kill his father over a family dispute.The knife suspected to have been used in the attack was also recovered.The accused was identified as Shiv Kumar alias Guddu, a motorcycle mechanic and resident of Uttargaon village in the Mohanlalganj area.Police said the attack took place on Aug 14 around 4 pm. According to the complaint filed by the accused’s mother, Savitri Devi, her husband Babulal was sitting at a scrap shop in Uttargaon when Shiv allegedly approached from behind and assaulted him with a knife.Investigators said Shiv allegedly struck his father on the neck twice with the intention to kill, leaving Babulal with a deep wound. The victim was rushed to Vidya Hospital in Harikanshgarh and remained in critical condition, police said.After the attack, Shiv allegedly fled. Police formed a team to locate him and arrested him on Aug 15 from the canal embankment road between Bhilampur and Uttargaon.During questioning, police said the accused told them he had thrown the knife near the canal on the road towards Bhilampur. Acting on the information, officers searched the area and recovered the weapon from bushes along the canal.Police said dried bloodstains were found on the knife, which was taken into custody as evidence and sent for further examination as part of the investigation.Additional DCP (South Zone) Vasanth Kumar Rallapalli said Shiv told police he had argued with his father on Aug 14 and claimed Babulal abused and slapped him. Police said Shiv then went home, picked up a vegetable-cutting knife, returned to the spot and attacked his father, with a second blow landing on the victim’s hand before he escaped.
