Jaipur: The SOG arrested a dismissed physical education teacher Tuesday for allegedly using a fake backdated BPEd degree to qualify for the 2022 recruitment examination and secure a govt job.Chand Singh Patel (41), a resident of Bilara in Jodhpur Rural, was wanted in a case registered at the SOG police station in connection with the alleged use of fake backdated degrees by candidates seeking govt jobs.The case followed an inquiry into complaints that candidates appearing for the Physical Education Teacher Recruitment Examination-2022 had, in collusion with intermediaries and universities, obtained backdated degrees and used them to secure selection, SOG ADGP Vishal Bansal said.Twenty-one accused, including chancellors/directors and former registrars of OPJS University, Churu, and JS University, Shikohabad, have already been arrested in the case.According to the SOG, Patel obtained a backdated BPEd degree from JS University through intermediaries and used it to qualify for the recruitment examination and get a job as a Grade III physical education teacher. He was later dismissed after the SOG’s investigation exposed the degree.Patel had been absconding since his dismissal. Police traced him with the help of Jodhpur Rural Police and arrested him after questioning. He had allegedly been moving between different locations in Jodhpur city for around one-and-a-half years to evade arrest, police said.During questioning, Patel allegedly told investigators that he paid Rs 1.20 lakh to intermediaries Babu Lal alias Babu Patel, Pradeep Kumar Sharma and Ravi Tyagi to obtain the backdated degree from JS University. The three have already been arrested.He is being questioned about other accused and candidates who allegedly benefited from the fake-degree network.With his arrest, the number of accused arrested in the case has risen to 22. Police are continuing efforts to trace other wanted accused.
