New Delhi: A woman and her 13-year-old daughter died after they were allegedly bit by a snake while sleeping in their home in outer Delhi’s Alipur last week.The deceased have been identified as Shafika Pravin, 41, a resident of Triveni Colony in Bakhtawarpur, and her daughter, Aafiya.Information was received at Alipur police station Wednesday from a nearby hospital regarding two patients who had been brought in after snakebite. Doctors told police that Shafika succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Aafiya, who was critical, had been referred to another hospital for advanced treatment. The teenager also died while under treatment.The family told police that they did not suspect any foul play in either death. After postmortem, both bodies were handed over to them, police said.Several similar incidents of snake bites during monsoon have been reported in Delhi-NCR in the recent past. Last year, between April and August 2025, Noida recorded 143 cases of snakebite, the highest in recent years. In the same period, wildlife rescuers reported a surge in snake rescues from residential areas as waterlogging forced snakes out of their habitats, particularly in south and outer Delhi.
