Srinagar, August 15 : The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at its Headquarters in Karanagar. The National Flag was hoisted by Commissioner SMC, Mr. Faz Lul Haseeb, IAS, in a solemn ceremony attended by all Joint Commissioners, Secretary SMC, Health Officer, Executive Engineers, senior officers and officials, and staff of the Central Office.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner extended his warm greetings on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day and paid homage to the great freedom fighters and martyrs whose valour, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom made India’s independence possible. He recalled the historic significance of August 15, 1947, when the nation emerged as a free country, and emphasised that the occasion is a moment of pride, remembrance and renewed commitment to the ideals and aspirations that inspired the freedom struggle.
The Commissioner called upon the SMC fraternity to uphold the spirit of independence through dedicated public service, integrity, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility. He stressed the importance of transparent, accountable and citizen-centric governance and urged officers and officials to discharge their duties with sincerity and commitment towards the people of Srinagar.
The celebrations also featured a vibrant musical and cultural programme, adding colour and enthusiasm to the occasion while showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Srinagar. The programme evoked a strong sense of patriotism, unity and collective pride among the participants.
The celebrations concluded with a renewed resolve among the SMC fraternity to work with dedication and professionalism towards strengthening civic services and building a cleaner, greener, healthier, more inclusive and prosperous Srinagar, in keeping with the spirit and aspirations of independent India.
