New Delhi: Delhi education minister Ashish Sood on July 23 joined an orientation session for Nursery, KG, Class I students and their parents at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Chirag Dilli. The event marked the beginning of the new academic session and saw participation from school staff, including the principal, teachers and the director of education. Sood thanked parents for choosing Delhi govt schools. “Every child in Delhi deserves a modern, inclusive and inspiring learning environment,” said the minister. “Many of you here are sending your children to school for the first time and naturally have concerns— ‘Is my child safe? Will they be cared for?’ That’s exactly why we started organising these orientation programmes.”He added, “Delhi govt is fully committed to raising the standard of education. We are focused on ensuring not just academic excellence but also holistic development of every child.” “Nearly 40 years ago, these very institutions produced doctors, engineers, IAS officers, scientists and even actors. In recent years, there has been a growing perception that govt schools are somehow inferior to private ones,” he said. “I want to assure you — your child studying in a govt school can achieve just as much, if not more.”“Over the next five years, we are equipping our schools with robust technological support — smart classrooms, AI tools and computer labs. These upgrades will prepare children for a rapidly changing world,” said Sood. He also highlighted student-centric initiatives undertaken by the govt. “We are providing scholarships for SC, ST students and ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of resources. During summer vacations, our teachers voluntarily conduct remedial classes for students who need extra academic support.”
