Jaipur: The All Coaching Institute Federation has opposed notices issued by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to coaching institutes with less than 100 students, alleging that small centres are being unnecessarily caught up in the authority’s ongoing action against coaching institutes.State president Anish Kumar Nadar said existing rules and Coaching Regulatory Commission Bill, 2025, exempt coaching institutes with less than 100 students from registration and other mandatory requirements. He alleged that JDA was clubbing smaller institutes with larger coaching centres allegedly operating in violation of norms, in order to show a higher number of enforcement actions before Supreme Court.Sanjay Kumar, owner of Paathshala Classes, said that of the hundreds of notices issued to coaching institutes, only a handful would ultimately be valid. He said many coaching operators had shifted to online classes after the Covid-19 pandemic and that physical coaching activity was no longer taking place in several buildings against which action was being initiated.“JDA’s action appears to be exaggerating a problem that does not exist on the ground,” Kumar said.He also questioned objections raised by residents of 10-B Scheme over alleged encroachments and the presence of students in the colony. “If residents have such a serious problem with encroachment and students, why is a full-fledged CBSE school, Tilak Public School, operating inside the colony gates?” he said.The coaching operators said the notices had created uncertainty among smaller institutes and urged JDA to distinguish between centres violating building or land-use norms and those covered by the exemption for institutes with fewer than 100 students.JDA’s response to the federation’s claims and its basis for issuing notices to smaller institutes is awaited.
