Jalandhar: The Nawanshahr police have booked the former chancellor of Lamrin Tech Skills University, Rail Majra, for cheating and criminal breach of trust on a complaint filed by university chancellor Nirmal Singh Rayat, owner and chancellor of the university. In his complaint given to the police, Rayat alleged that Sandeep Singh Kaura started working with his educational trust in 2007, and after a college set up by the trust was turned into a tech skills university in 2021, Kaura was made a member of the governing body. He said that he was later made its chairman and chancellor, and he was given the administrative and financial powers. He levelled allegations of cheating and fraud against Kaura.Nawanshahr DSP investigated the allegations, and in his enquiry report, held that Kaura transferred Rs 1.1 crore from university accounts to his personal account while misusing his powers as chancellor on Aug 21, 2024. The DSP also held that if more evidence emerges, then that would also be considered.Police also took the opinion of the Nawanshahr District Attorney (Legal), who recommended registration of the case. The FIR was registered under Sections 316 (4) and 318 (4) of BNS. Kaura’s personal website mentions that he is working as adviser to National Skill Development Corporation for Skill India International Mission, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE), and also Adviser to Govt of Punjab (Skill Development & Technical Education ) since Oct 2015.
