Thane: Animal lovers and residents of Thane demanded a fast-track investigation into the death of six puppies allegedly fed contaminated food by an unidentified person inside a residential complex in Vartak Nagar. A case has been registered against the unknown person. The incident came to light on Feb 24 evening when a security guard found the puppies from a litter, dead within society premises. The three surviving puppies were rushed to a local veterinary hospital. Residents said community dogs are regularly given packaged food at designated feeding spots.

“We approached the police seeking clarity and swift action,” said Anil Dsouza, a resident and animal feeder.
