Coimbatore: Southern Railway has written to the railway board to introduce more train services from Mettupalayam by August after the completion of the ongoing development work at the railway station.Accordingly, Southern Railway has sought the operation of a new train service between Mettupalayam-Podanur-Pollachi-Rameswaram (daily), which was stopped during the metre gauge conversion.The other services proposed to be operated from Mettupalayam include 20643/44 Coimbatore-Chennai Vande Bharat Express, 22609/10 Coimbatore-Mangalore express, 16721/22 Coimbatore-Madurai express, 16607/ 08 Coimbatore-Kannur express, and 16323/24 Coimbatore-Mangalore express.Southern Railway has also suggested running 66603/04 and 56603/04 Coimbatore – Shoranur passenger trains until Mettupalayam, and utilize it to run between Mettupalayam-Coimbatore-Podanur-Pollachi.Mettupalayam station currently has two platforms; an additional platform is being constructed, which is expected to be completed in July and brought into use by August.
