Noida: Noida Authority will finalise a detailed project report (DPR) for a six-lane underpass at Parthala Chowk within a week that is expected to ease the daily traffic jams that strand thousands of commuters, especially during peak hours.“The Authority will build underpass under the Parthala Signature Bridge on the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad route. The DPR will be ready in a week,” Noida Authority general manager AK Arora.Consultancy agency DIMTS will prepare the report, which will then be vetted by IIT Delhi before tenders are floated. Construction is likely to begin by the end of this year. The project is estimated to cost Rs 80 crore and take 18 months to complete.Parthala roundabout is a key intersection where traffic from Vikas Marg, which connects Sectors 52 and 71 to Gaur Chowk, meets the FNG Expressway linking Sorka village to Chhijarsi Colony. The FNG corridor also connects Ghaziabad, NH-9 and Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The Authority opened the 600-metre Parthala flyover, the city’s first cable-stayed bridge, in 2023 to ease congestion on Vikas Marg and improve access to Greater Noida West. Traffic on the roundabout and FNG road, however, continues to crawl on the road below. Police personnel often have to stop vehicles manually to manage movement during morning and evening peak hours. The pressure is expected to grow once the FNG Expressway, connecting Noida with Faridabad, is completed. Residents of sectors 119, 120, 121 and 122, Chhijarsi and adjoining areas are expected to benefit from better connectivity. The underpass is proposed to be 710 metres long, with two sumps and a pumping system for rainwater drainage. It will be built using diaphragm wall technology and cast-in-situ RCC construction, which will keep the surrounding land stable during work.
