Colva: Fatorda police arrested six men from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts targeting BSNL telecommunication materials from 10 yards across South Goa.South Goa SP Akshat Ayush said the first complaint was received on Sept 12. Similar thefts were subsequently reported from Seraulim, Colva, Verna, Davorlim and Vasco, leading to the registration of 10 FIRs at different police stations.“By examining CCTV footage, we were able to arrest Mohammad Aslam, Shahrukh Malik and Sahil Malik,” Ayush said.During questioning, information allegedly provided by Aslam led police to recover 165.2kg of copper wires and other metal materials, he said.A police team was then sent to Satara, Maharashtra, where, with the assistance of local police and using mobile tower location tracking, Sameer, Sakib and Hasnain Qureshi were traced and arrested, Ayush said.Police said the accused admitted to being involved in the thefts of BSNL material, he said.Another team was sent to Delhi to trace and arrest the alleged receiver of the stolen property, Sabir Malik, also from Meerut. However, he remains absconding, and police served a notice on his father, Sarfraj Malik, Ayush said.Further investigation is under way.
