Nagpur: Despite recording steady gains in ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Nagpur continues to lag behind most districts in Maharashtra, ranking sixth from bottom in Enumeration Form (EF) distribution and remaining among the state’s slower performers in digitisation.According to SEC data, the district has distributed 35.45 lakh Enumeration Forms, covering 76.43% of its 46.38 lakh electors. Digitisation also gathered pace, with 16.90 lakh forms uploaded, taking district’s digitisation level to 36.43%. While both figures mark an improvement, Nagpur lags well below state average, trailing every district in Vidarbha. Number of polling parts achieving 100% digitisation has now risen to 179 across Nagpur district out of 4610. Kamptee leads with 76 fully digitised parts, followed by Ramtek with 52, Katol with 21 and Umred with 17, while Saoner has 7, Hingna 4, and Nagpur South West and Nagpur East 1 each.Across the state, 8.10 crore of state’s 9.79 crore electors (82.83%) have received Enumeration Forms, while 4.72 crore forms (48.22%) have been digitised. Vidarbha emerged as one of the best-performing regions, with 1.84 crore forms distributed among its 2 crore electors, translating to nearly 92% coverage, while over 1.22 crore forms have been digitised, pushing region’s digitisation beyond 61%.Among all districts in Maharashtra, Yavatmal has emerged frontrunner in digitisation, touching 79.06%, followed closely by Chandrapur and Parbhani. In contrast, Nagpur remains slowest-performing district in Vidarbha on both distribution, digitisation. However, it still fares better than major urban districts such as Pune, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, where digitisation stood at 30.91%, 24.71% and 15.20%, respectively.Officials attribute the slow progress to Nagpur’s urban character. Frequent migration, locked houses and address changes have made door-to-door verification challenging than in rural districts, where electors are easier to locate and verify.(Inputs: Rose Bachwani)
