Chandrapur: Chandrapur district recorded 8 cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act between April 1 and June 30, 2026, including 6 rape cases, one murder and one case of grievous assault, prompting district collector Vasumana Pant to direct police to ensure swift processing of victim compensation and strict accountability for delays.Reviewing atrocity cases at a meeting, Pant noted all 8 cases are currently under police investigation. The cases are evenly split, with four involving Scheduled Caste victims and four involving Scheduled Tribe victims.Pant instructed police to promptly forward copies of FIRs, chargesheets and other case records to the office of the assistant commissioner (social welfare) so that financial aid to victims of rape, murder, and other serious offences is not delayed. She warned cops failing to submit the required documents on time would be held liable.Officials informed the meeting that the state has disbursed ₹77.82 lakh in financial assistance to 73 beneficiaries under the Atrocities Act. Of them, 28 victims received the first instalment, while 45 received the second or third compensation instalment.
