A BJP team of senior leaders led by Opposition leader R Ashoka met Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and demanded action against the CM and ministers. He said Freedom Park is the designated venue for protests under a High Court order and that the government cannot claim exemption from the law.
“The law is the same for everyone, including the Chief Minister. If the government itself violates the rules, how can it prevent others from doing the same?” Ashoka told reporters.
He criticised the government for cancelling a scheduled Cabinet meeting to participate in the protest and accused the Congress of trying to divert attention from governance issues. Ashoka also claimed the protest was held on a stretch where demonstrations are prohibited because of the presence of key institutions, including the Chief Justice’s residence.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra also attacked Shivakumar, calling it inappropriate for a constitutional authority to stage a dharna outside the ECI office. He rejected the CM’s allegation that BJP workers had sought deletion of SC, ST and OBC voters from electoral rolls.
“I challenge the Chief Minister to produce even one Form 7 application showing that a BJP worker sought deletion of SC, ST or OBC voters’ names. If he proves it, I am ready to resign,” Vijayendra said.
