Dhubri: Assam health minister and Dhubri’s guardian minister, Ashok Singhal, on Sunday launched the statewide pulse polio vaccination programme from Dhubri, in sync with the national immunisation campaign.Singhal flagged off the drive from Dhubri Media College and Hospital, targeting 2.92 lakh children under the age of five years in Dhubri district.Across Assam, 52,000 health workers were deployed to administer polio drops at nearly 24,000 vaccination booths.Singhal said he hoped the programme would run smoothly and meet targets set for the state and Dhubri district within the stipulated time. The minister also inaugurated a renamed road, earlier known as AMCO Road, in honour of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. At the road inauguration, Dhubri Municipal Board chairman Dr Debamoy Sanyal said the road was historically named by the British as AMCO (Assam Match Company) after a factory was set up there in 1925.“But the factory was shut down in 1997, and Dhubri Municipal Board, in a board meeting held in 2022, resolved to rename this road in the name of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and this has come true today with the inauguration of the renamed road by our guardian minister,” Dr Sanyal added.
