Churachandpur: People of Churachandpur held a silent torch rally on Monday night, demanding justice for late Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, who was brutally attacked in Imphal on May 4, 2023, and later succumbed to his injuries on Feb 21, 2026, at a private hospital in Gurugram.Valte’s body has been kept in cold storage at Churachandpur District Hospital since Feb 24.Under the aegis of the Zomi Coordination Committee (ZCC), various forms of protest have been organised so far, including a massive rally, sit-in dharna by BJP Mandal of 56-Thanlon assembly constituency, midnight tolling of death bells, and the silent torch rally on Monday night.Participants in the rally questioned how the BJP-led Manipur govt failed to deliver justice for one of its own legislators, while reiterating their demand for accountability.The rally started at Valte’s residence at 7pm, with the public braving severe weather. The procession moved along Dorcas Road, Tedim Road, and Old Bazar police station, before proceeding via Tipaimukh Road to Churachandpur Medical College through the public ground.
