Silchar: An inter-departmental coordination meeting was held to plan streamlining urban life and enhancing civic amenities in Silchar, which has recently been elevated to a city.The meeting was held under the chairmanship of district commissioner (Cachar) Mridul Yadav on Saturday afternoon.The meeting primarily focused on addressing the challenges posed by the monsoon season, including waterlogging, clogged drains, traffic congestion, and implementation hurdles in ongoing infrastructure projects. A roadmap was discussed to identify and resolve these issues through a collaborative and time-bound approach.“We want every citizen of Silchar to experience a smooth and comfortable urban life. For that, timely planning, proactive steps, and seamless inter-departmental coordination are key. We are committed to ensuring that there are no lapses,” said DC Yadav during the meeting.Special emphasis was laid on revamping the city’s traffic management system to ensure smoother vehicular movement across key thoroughfares. Prompt desiltation of drains and canals and their regular maintenance were highlighted as top priorities to combat waterlogging and reduce flood risk during heavy rain.Commissioner Srishti Singh stressed the importance of pre-monsoon preparedness, saying, “Timely cleaning of drains and proper waste management are our strongest weapons to protect the city during monsoon. We are according topmost priority to these tasks and will strengthen monitoring mechanisms. Strict action will be taken against any negligence.”At the end of the meeting, a joint message was issued by the district administration and the municipal corporation, calling for united efforts from all departments to resolve issues swiftly and ensure the quality of all ongoing civic projects.
