Mysuru: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said govt’s primary objective is to eliminate inequality and build an egalitarian society where everyone gets equal opportunities. He was speaking at an event held at Dasanuru village in Nanjangud taluk, his home constituency of Varuna, where development works worth Rs 40.4 crore were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for works worth Rs 143.4 crore.Several key buildings and projects, including the Dr BR Ambedkar Women’s Hostel, were inaugurated.Siddaramaiah said when he was CM in 2013, his govt fulfilled 158 of the 165 promises made during the elections. Besides, it introduced 20 to 30 new schemes, including Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya, aimed at economically empowering the poor and people belonging to all communities and religions. He said within a year of returning to power in 2023, govt successfully implemented all five guarantee schemes it had promised.“Of the 240 taluks in the state, 220 have been hit by severe drought. Despite the difficult situation, the guarantee schemes reached people, providing them food, financial assistance and relief. The schemes were implemented for all people in the state without discrimination based on caste, religion or political affiliation,” he said.Mysuru district minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah said 161 development works worth Rs 183.8 crore have been taken up in Varuna constituency. Foundation stones were laid for 134 works estimated at Rs 143.4 crore, while 27 completed works worth Rs 40.4 crore were launched.Despite challenges such as rising prices, govt is continuing its pro-people schemes and working to advance development and social welfare simultaneously, Yathindra said.Nanjangud MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayan, MLCs D Thimmaiah and K Shivakumar were present. But Chamarajanagar MP Sunil Bose, who is the son of former minister HC Mahadevappa, did not attend. Nanjangud is part of the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha segment. Mahadevappa has distanced himself from Siddaramaiah after Yathindra was included in Shivakumar ministry while he was dropped. While Mahadevappa did not share the dais with Siddaramaiah at a Congress event on Sunday, his son-MP followed him, staying away from the event at Dasanuru.
