Sources indicated that the sudden transfer was linked to suspected connections with the soil mafia, which has been active in parts of the coastal area despite periodic enforcement drives. Similar allegations had surfaced earlier during Jose’s previous posting at Poovar, after which he was moved to the rural SP’s office. It was learnt that senior officers recently received audio and video evidence purportedly showing the accused demanding payment from soil mafia on a per-load basis. However, the rural SP said no written complaints have been received against the officers so far. “A report has been sought from the special branch to verify the allegations. Further action will be decided based on the findings,” he said. Mahesh added that the transfer had already been under consideration and was formally announced during SHO meeting as part of routine administrative measures.
