T’puram: Kerala Pradesh Congress College Teachers Association (KPCTA) has urged the chief electoral officer (CEO) to initiate an inquiry into the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by MG University, Kottayam. In a formal representation submitted to CEO Rathan U Kelkar, KPSTA state working committee member Praveen Sakalya expressed concern over the recent reconstitution of the undergraduate and postgraduate boards of studies at the university. The appointments were notified through MG University notifications dated March 16 and March 23. The petitioner questioned the timing of these notifications as it coincided with the enforcement of the model code of conduct and urged the CEO to take appropriate action for the violation. The representation also highlights allegations that the appointments of chairpersons and members to the boards of studies may have been influenced by political affiliations rather than academic merit. The petitioner claimed that the university authorities have not disclosed the criteria used for selecting the members, leading to concerns about transparency and the possibility of politically motivated decisions.
