T’puram: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the district collector to form a team headed by the revenue divisional officer to inspect the living conditions of Mini, a disabled woman, and her young son at Pazhaya Kunnummel in Kilimanoor.SHRC chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas issued the order after taking suo motu cognisance of a television news report. Mini, who cannot walk, and her Class I son are reportedly staying in an asbestos-covered shack, surrounded by venomous snakes and unfit for habitation.The team, including the joint director of panchayats and the district social justice officer, must recommend immediate relief, verify land ownership and examine why housing aid was not granted. The collector has been asked to provide Mini assistance under Life Mission or other schemes, resolve ownership disputes through legal services authorities if needed, ensure the child’s schooling, and file an action-taken report within six weeks.
