Ludhiana: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday caught an inspector, posted as the SHO of Division Number 4 police station, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.The accused, Gurjit Singh, was arrested following a complaint by a woman from Noorwala Road. According to the VB, the complainant’s son had been arrested in a case registered at the same police station.The woman alleged that during a meeting at the station, her son claimed he was brutally beaten by the police. She further stated that the police had confiscated his gold ring and silver bracelet. Inspector Gurjit Singh allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 to return the jewellery. The complainant recorded the conversation and approached the bureau.Following a preliminary enquiry, a VB team laid a trap and caught the inspector while he was accepting Rs 30,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station.
