Ahmedabad: The Shikshan Setu project was launched in Himmatnagar, Sabarkantha, with the aim of improving school education and strengthening community participation. The initiative has been jointly undertaken by the district administration, the district primary education officer’s office and the Dr K R Shroff Foundation.The launch ceremony was held at Nalin Kant Gandhi Town Hall in the presence of education minister and Sabarkantha district in charge minister Pradyuman Vaja. An SMC Kit was also launched under the ‘Amari Shala–Amari Jawabdari’ campaign.The project aims to empower school management committees (SMCs), provide them with training and increase public participation in the development of schools.Speaking at the event, Vaja said the nation’s development depended on the overall progress of children from rural and economically disadvantaged families. He stressed the need for greater coordination among SMCs, teachers and parents to ensure that no child was denied education due to financial constraints.The project will be implemented in Poshina, Khedbrahma, Vijaynagar, Vadali and Himmatnagar. Its key objectives include achieving 100% student attendance, bringing children who have dropped out back into the education system and conducting social audits of schools to assess their infrastructure and facilities.District collector Lalit Narayan Singh Sandhu said the project would focus on empowering SMCs and developing the 100 best-performing committees as models of effective school management and community ownership.
