Jhunjhunu: Martyrs of the Kargil War were honoured across Jhunjhunu, Sikar and Churu Sunday as the nation marked the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas.Administrative officers, ex-servicemen, serving soldiers, families of martyrs and citizens gathered at Shaheed Smaraks in the three districts to pay tribute. Wreaths and flowers were offered at the martyr memorials, followed by a two-minute silence for the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the country.Speakers said Shekhawati has long been known as a land of brave soldiers, with its sons showing exceptional courage not only in the Kargil War but in every major war and military operation of the country. They said the region takes pride in the valour and sacrifice of its soldiers, including those who laid down their lives in Kargil.The Shaheed Smaraks were decorated with flowers for the occasion. The gatherings echoed with slogans hailing Bharat Mata and the immortal martyrs as people offered floral tributes to the fallen soldiers.
